Profile of
Bishop Getties L. Jackson, Sr., M. Div.
Bishop Getties L. Jackson, Sr. is devoted to promoting
a clear understanding and relevant application of Scripture
in order to bring about changes in urban communities by
teaching Kingdom of God principles in a way that even a
child can understand. Bishop Jackson is chosen by the Lord
to bring forth a vision through New Birth Greenville. He
is the founding Senior Pastor of New Birth Greenville, which
began in March of 1997. Under his leadership the church
continues to grow with a membership over 700. New Birth
Greenville’s Kingdom Life Center Grand Opening Celebration
was held Sunday, May 30, 2004. The new location of 20,000
square feet includes a gymnasium, fitness center, bookstore,
classrooms, nursery and administrative offices. God has
given Bishop Jackson a vision to complete the unfinished
20,000 square feet, bringing the total to 40,000 square
feet. In the 20,000 square feet Bishop Jackson will build
a Kingdom Youth Center. Which will include a theatre, bowling
alley, a computer lab and learning center, children’s
chapel, restaurant/snack bar, fitness center, arcade center,
barber shop, beauty salon and additional Sunday school/small
groups classrooms and additional bathrooms. On Sunday, October
5, 2008 the vision expanded, New Birth Greenville launched
its second location (8:00 am) at the Hilton Hotel on Haywood
Rd. in Greenville, S.C. We officially promoted “One
Multi-Cultural Church in 2 Locations.” This coincided
with our church vision, “We are Reaching People for
Jesus” On November 2, 2008, our Greenville location
had its first service in a store front building located
at 420 N. Pleasantburg Drive next door to the Irashiai Japanese
Restaurant.
Bishop Jackson was married to Mrs. De’Anita
Frye Jackson on January 29, 1983. They have one son and
two daughters: Getties Jr., Angelica, and Crystal.
He is a graduate of Emanuel Bible College with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and a Master’s
of Divinity from M. Christopher White School of Divinity
at Gardner Webb University in Christian Education. Bishop
Jackson is among the first of the five African Americans
to receive his Masters of Divinity degree (a 100 year old
institution) from Gardner Webb University. With a strong
focus on language proficiency in Greek and Hebrew.
Bishop Jackson is known as an anointed teacher
and preacher of the gospel and effective visionary. He is
the founder and past Executive Producer of Urban Contemporary
Gospel of WLFJ Radio in Greenville, South Carolina. Previously
he served as Chairman of the School Improvement Council
at Northwood Middle School. Bishop is also a graduate of
the Leadership Greer Class of XXVIII and he currently serves
a Board member of the chamber of Commerce. His relational
attitude has built a strong repor with local churches and
political leaders alike. He has been under the mentorship
and spiritual covering of Bishop Eddie L. Long, Senior Pastor
of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, Georgia
since August 1, 2002.
Bishop Jackson began preaching August 4, 1985.
He is the former pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church of Lake
Lure, North Carolina from 1989 to 1993. He has also pastored
Enoree Fork Baptist Church of Greer, South Carolina from
1993 to 1997. Bishop Jackson is very focused driven
to fulfill the call of God placed on his life. Bishop Long
assigned Bishop Jackson to host the very first Kingdom Assembly
at the BiLo Center in Greenville,
S.C. on May 8, 2006.
July 1, 2006, after much prayer Bishop Getties
& Elder Anita Jackson met with the United Christian
Ministries Church family to make the announcement official.
We officially became New Birth Greenville as of January
1, 2007. Our week long Unity and Induction Conference was
held March 11-15, 2007. Bishop Eddie L. Long (Bishop Jackson’s
spiritual father) was our key note speaker.
On November 7, 2008, Bishop Jackson was elevated
to the office of Bishop. He was consecrated to the office
of Bishop by his spiritual father in the ministry Bishop
Eddie L. Long of New Birth Cathedral of Atlanta, Georgia.
