The Purpose of the Fast
Get Ready to Fast! Let us remember that in “2008, We Are in it to Win it!” The purpose of this fast is to prepare ourselves for breakthroughs in the following areas: Physically, emotionally, relationally, financially and spiritually! During this time we must go before the Lord in preparing our hearts to be in “The still.” When the Lord wanted to do great wonders among Israel, He commanded them to make preparation before the great day of manifestation came. We are preparing ourselves to be free from whatever has bound us and generations before us. We are preparing ourselves to walk in life more abundantly. As you consecrate yourselves before this monumental occasion, expect every kind of distraction imaginable to compete for your attention. Don’t miss this One Moment of opportunity in God as we go after Him together. The type of fast you choose is between you and God. He will honor your best sacrifice. You may want to include a combination of fasts while fasting. For example, you may want to participate in a full fast 1-3 days and then continue with a Daniel Fast for the remainder of your time of consecration. Before beginning any type of fast consult your physician.
During this 21 days of consecration make a commitment to do the following:
- Full Fast: Drink only liquids. If you get weak, drink a liquid broth (You establish the number of days)
- The Daniel Fast: Eat no meat no sweets and bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruit and vegetables.
- Partial Fast: A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sun up to sun down. This fast can be a Full Fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.
- Listen to Bishop Elect Jackson’s message on CD entitled “If it means something to you, it means something to God” (July 2, 2008). You can purchase it in the bookstore.
